click picture to enlarge For centuries Markneukirchen was the hub where master instrument and bow makers and apprentices gathered and lived to learn and excel in their craft. I believe this bow came from the Bubenreuth area post WW II era. This bow is a trade bow produced a workshop that was trying to blur the lines of origin even though there were trade acts that clearly stated that any item had to declare the country of origin on the item. Given all that, the bow still made it into our country and has a second life. This bow is pernambuco wood that is a light-colored orange/brown. The grain is tight, the bow is light in overall gram weight, and it’s easy to handle. This is a German trade bow with good bones; nickel silver mounts and carved in pernambuco. I’ve gone over the bow; the head/tip area, the mounted frog, and the winding were all in good condition. I cut a new leather thumb for the bow and cleaned and polished all its parts, then finally the bow. The stick itself is strong with some flex. This bow will make a great first step wood bow for a player. The bow is round in section with nickel silver mounts in the frog. The frog is fully-lined and is a Parisian eye model with a three-piece end button. It is German workmanship that only lacks provenance. Violinist, see how it responds on your instrument. Sometimes these bread and butter bows are fantastic. Remember, it is all about the sound on your instrument. Weight fully haired 60.4 grams
